An Introduction to the Types of Office Chairs

There are hundreds of different office chairs out there and they come in a variety of style. But thanks to the wonders of the internet, you can easily find any chair that you need, depending on the specifications that you need, right at your fingertips.

In choosing your office chair, you should take into the account the type of work that you plan to do with it. For example, if you need a chair in your room for drafting or a bar stool, it is totally different than chairs for medical seating. So regardless of the style, the office chair that you choose should provide proper lumbar support. The rest of the characteristics that may or may not be included in the office chairs are the ability to adjust its height, its armrests, the casters at the bottom, and its ability to swivel smoothly.

Office chairs that can swivel smoothly and have casters at the bottom are called task chairs. Usually they are adjustable to make room for people of varying height and weight. And because they are adjustable, these office chairs are very much suitable for a personal office use or for a place where a lot of people usually sits. In this way, each user can readily adjust the chair according to his or her own preference and comfort and at the same time provide the necessary support to prevent pain or injury.

Executive chairs are also another option in choosing an office chair. This type of office chairs are the same to task chairs in such a way that they are conveniently adjustable and have casters at the bottom. However, executive chairs are typically padded more than task chairs and are generally more comfortable to sit on. Hence, they are more expensive that the simple task chairs. They can also have the ability to recline, which is not available for most task chairs.

For individuals who are particularly tall or heavy, there are big and tall office chairs available in the market. This type of office chairs are in close resemblance with the executive chairs. The only thing that sets them apart from executive chairs is that these big office chairs have a larger seat and a taller backrest to accommodate the needs of a big and tall person.

In a relatively spacious office, it may be necessary to supply guest chairs. These office chairs are often found on the opposite side an open desk. Guest office chairs are usually found in offices of the doctors, lawyers and banks. This type of chair makes it possible for the professional (usually the one who owns the office) on one side of his or her desk and the visitor or the guest, sit across. This way, an undisturbed conversation between the two parties can happen while comfortably seated at the desk.
