Tooled (faux) leather as kitchen backsplash?
I'm decorating an office building. The issue is all a mixture of cowboy, Santa Fe, and art Indian. There is a kitchen in the office and I'm thinking of making the backsplash with cloth embossed leather imitation. It looks and feels almost like leather, but it is false. Sold in a bolt (roll) at Hobby Lobby. The kitchen is rarely used. I was thinking in covering the seats of chairs with the same material. I'm planning on doing a wall (which looks to enter the kitchen) with the torn brown kraft paper to make it look like "imitation suede and then paint the walls a contrasting color other …. sienna or maybe a red barn? any suggestions on colors? Or do you think the false embossed leather would be a good backsplash? Thanks for your input!
Color? Rawhide. It should be fine as long as you do not ever get wet. Poured water will come over time, and if it is a material (as leather), not play fair with water, it will eventually show stains and discolouration. Maybe that will look ok, maybe not. Kind of a cool idea, however. Here's some information on other materials from splashes.
