Tiki bars became popular in the years following the First World War, when air travel became more accessible and ideal tropical holiday island were in the minds of all. People wanted a piece of today's beaches, cocktails and laid back mixed bamboo huts that was on TV and heard people talking. The Tiki Bar serves this popular obsession with perfection. The first tiki bar was with Don Johnson, which opened in 1933 in Los Angeles. He had all the marks tiki bars of today: cocktail umbrellas, grass cloth wall coverings, bamboo bars and stools. Don the Beachcomber closed for a few years after its opening, but many other bars followed, some of which still stand. Here are some of the most popular tiki bar today.
Forbidden Island
As one of the latest tiki bars on the list, Forbidden Island, Alameda, CA, is one of the schools more antique look of the group. Trader Vic's

Today, Trader Vic's is an international franchise with locations in Scottsdale, San Francisco, Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas, Emeryville, Destin, and Palo Alto, as well as 20 international locations in countries like Britain, Spain and Germany. The original location, however, in Atlanta, GA. Bamboo has excellent bar and tiki decor and live music and drink specials every day different.
The Tonga Room
Located in the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, the Board of Tonga has a unique vintage feel. This is essentially of a ship built in the music of what used to be a swimming pool. The Tonga Room was supposedly the inspiration for Jimmy Buffet's famous song "Altered Boy". Patrons of the Chamber of Tonga can relax in bamboo huts and enjoy the cocktails and atmosphere of the South Seas, complete with occasional sound effects from Tropical Storm and lighting.
Tiki-Ti
Tiki-Ti is a small bar, unpretentious family property located on Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. It was inaugurated in 1961 by master blender drinks Buhen Ray, who participated in the fashion original tiki bar restaurant Don the Beachcomber. Buhen son and grandson are being to tradition, mixing some of the best exotic cocktail drinks you will ever have.
